Well, she feels really bad about it And isn't that the worst punishment of all?Remember this one?Jessica Coleman was a 15-year old Elyria, Ohio sophomore when she gave birth to a baby boy on February 4, 1999. She didn't want the baby. So, she stabbed and beat her infant son and then got her boyfriend, Thomas Truelson Jr., to help her dispose of the body by bundling the baby with rocks in a duffel bag and throwing the lot into a flooded quarry.Jessica and her ex-boyfriend are due to be sentenced Monday. After pleading guilty to three charges including gross abuse of a corpse, Truelson is facing up to 11 years. Jessica pleaded guilty to seven charges including involuntary manslaughter and faces up to 24 years. Both of them could get off with as little as probation. Jessica's written a letter asking Lorain County Common Pleas Judge Edward Zaleski for probation instead of prison time. "It is horrifying to think my own child is not here because of my actions and decisions. Forgiving myself is something I may never be able to do." In her letter, Coleman said she did not know she was pregnant until a couple of months into the pregnancy. Truelson, who she says is the father, expected her to miscarry, she said.So who else thinks that pretty much sums up as "Look, I feel really bad about it, so please don't send me to prison. I promise to never forgive myself. Oh and it was mostly my boyfriend's fault anyhow." She deserves the full 24 years. I hope the Judge sees it that way too. [1] Kate blogs at The Original Musings.
