Oliver Stone Does 9/11 But never fear, says Stone, there's no politics in this movie. Well, you'll have to forgive my skepticism, but I've seen his movie "JFK," whose conspiracy theories were so deep and labyrinthine it had everyone from LBJ down to the White House janitorial staff in on the assassination. How is he going to be able to resist the crack cocaine-like temptation of all the 9/11 conspiracy theories? Nor does it assuage my skepticism that Stone's personal idol and subject of two of his movies is Fidel Castro. About the bearded communist dictator, Oliver once said, "I . . . have never seen the kind of spontaneous affection for a leader expressed on the streets as I have seen in Cuba towards Fidel." Yeah, and they feel the same kind of "spontaneous affection" for Osama in Peshawar, Karachi, the West Bank and a thousand other miserable places. Gee, I wonder . . . Could any of those people possibly be misguided? Could Stone himself? Still, he insists that the movie is merely about "a rescue and families involved in the rescue. It's really a technical attempt to be realistic about what happened in that building." Given that these comments were made during a question and answer session at the Bangkok International Film Festival (yes, there really is such a thing), during which he also said that the Bush administration has "been a nightmare," can he really be trusted to get a movie about 9/11 right? Good luck with this critically vital project--Possibly the most important scandal/cover-up in U.S. history. Of course, THEY will subvert any attempt and try to prevent the facts from being disclosed to the public. The truth is so painful in this matter that we, the sheep-like masses, will opt to ignore the truth and believe that which we are told.
