THE MILLION DOLLAR BANKNOTE ![]() Eight people in southern Japan blew $1.27 million paying for American $1 million bills. No, the treasury doesn't print any. Three of stooges have filed for personal bankruptcy. They are also considering a criminal complaint. CONSIDERING? These guys are dumb. A construction company president told them about a rare $1 million bill that was for sale in Chengdu, China. He said he could get them a return 10 times on their investment. The "investors" as the Asahi Newspaper called them, bought the story that U.S. government printed the bills in 1928 when Chiang Kai-shek was still in power so Americans couldeasily bring their assets back home. Someone had a million bucks in China in 1928? The scam artist displayed a thousand of the $1 million notes featuring George Washington. The "marks" were told the notes could be exchanged for smaller denominations in Hong Kong. The company president said the bills would be exchanged by the end of April but, disappeared. Reportedly he is re-writing Mark Twain's "The Million Pound Banknote" and is hoping to be chastised by Oprah. The largest U.S. denomination ever produced was $100,000 between 1934 and 1935, according to the Treasury. The biggest Chinese demonation is a 100 Yuan note which TODAY is $12.40 US Dollars.
