Iran Demands Apology Over Cartoons, Statements From Rice
An Iranian newspaper "said it wanted to test whether the West extends its principle of freedom of expression to the Nazi genocide as it did to the caricatures of Islam's prophet," soliciting cartoons on its website, according to AP.
Of course we do. We've gone this long largely ignoring the lampooning of the west (and Jews) in Islamic newspapers. We often run cartoons about ourselves and the things we hold dear. And what's more, you won't see many people acting violently over it (to distinguish from the many thousands of peaceful protesters regarding the Muhammed cartoons). Further, according to AP, "Flemming Rose, the Danish editor behind the publication of the caricatures, had said he would consider running the Holocaust drawings in Jyllands-Posten but was later overruled by his editor."
The best part, however, came as Iran demanded an apology from the U.S. regarding Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's comment that "Iran and Syria have gone out of their way to inflame sentiments and to use this to their own purposes." According to the AP article, "the Iranian foreign minister told reporters Sunday that Denmark could have resolved the problem had it apologized immediately for the caricatures. He also repeated claims by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the drawings were part of an Israeli conspiracy."
You're right, and I apologize on behalf of the entire western world. Clearly any rational person could see that this is an Israeli conspiracy, and you are not purposely inflaming anyone, especially not by coming up with the conclusion you have.
