Cheney shoots lawyer, no charges filed

Here’s a problem the Bush White House hasn’t had to face before: the vice president just shot a guy. Okay, sure, it was a hunting accident, the guy’s not seriously hurt and anyway, he’s just another fat cat lawyer so maybe Cheney actually performed a public service. But that won’t stop the Cheney-haters -- who already see him as Darth Vader, Vlad the Impaler and Adolph Hitler all rolled into one -- from trying to make him look bad.

What a gift to the liberal blogs which are having a field day with the “Dead-eye Dick” jokes and witty comments like, “I hope he goes duck hunting with Scalia again." Scalia? Why not President Bush himself, the power-mad Texas neocon oilman who is fomenting endless global war and promulgating environmental policies that don’t give humanity a snowball’s chance in a globally-warmed earth of surviving another century. C’mon guys, you’re losing your edge.

At least MichaelMoore.com was able to muster a bitingly jocular title in its link to the Cheney shotgun story: 'Fahrenheit 9/11' Meets 'Bowling for Columbine' -- Bad Aim, Good Target. That's pretty good, but I'm absolutely on tenterhooks waiting for Al Franken's comments on Cheney's shotgunning of Whittington. I can almost hear it now in Franken's nasally drone . . . Whittington must have told Cheney that wiretapping is illegal. And so Cheney must have shot him intentionally. Get it?
