The trials of the Trial of Saddam Hussein Here's the latest update on the farce du jour. In an attempt to keep order, the judge expelled Barzan Hassan, for calling the court "the daughter of a whore", and a defense attorney from the courtroom. The rest of the defense team, protesting left, even after the judge warned them they would not be let back in. Saddam objected to the court-appointed defense attorneys the judge then brought in, saying "I don't want these lawyers, and if they insist on staying here, they are evil.". (duh!) Saddam was then told to leave or be thrown out. "For 35 years I have run your rights," Hussein said - but he left shortly afterwards, and the trial was adjourned until Wednesday. Incidentally, this is the third judge to have heard the case, the previous two being forced out due to political pressure. Hopefully, justice will triumph anyway. Meanwhile, the defense team is also preparing to sue U.S. President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair for violations of international law, and ask for compensation related to damages within Iraq after the March 2003 U.S.-led invasion.
