Janet Parshall Speaks Out About Brokeback Mountain
Janet Parshall did an OUTSTANDING job of defending the biblical and right position on this issue. Despite the fact that Larry King often interrupted her and tried to throw her off her train of thought. As a Christian woman myself, I am highlighting Janet in this exchange because I want people to see an example of a godly woman, who knows the issues - can give a reason for why she believes what she believes and does it skillfully, with grace and truth. I hope you enjoy the clips. CLICK LINKS TO SEE VIDEO Janet answers why she didn't feel the need to see the movie Brokeback Mountain. Running time about 1:23 minutes. Was this helpful to you? Janet Parshall came off as really smug and heartless. The callers really seemed to take her to task for her very small-minded and cruel views, and made really great personal statements in support of gay and bisexual people. Larry King really lost his cool with her and her insulting demeanor towards gay people. But the most powerful testimony was that of Chad Allen, who is a Christian who is also gay. He came across as a decent, sweet young man who is at peace with who he is and practices true love and acceptance of others. It was great to see that the family of the missionary he is playing is fully supporting him. It's great to see non-bigoted Christians represented on this topic.
Tarheelhombre,
I'm not sure what program you viewed, but Janet was excellent in presentation and message.

I'm sorry, but why didn't you post the entire video? If, as you say, Mrs. Parshall did so well defending her views, it strikes me as odd that you snipped selected clips featuring only her out of the contex of the whole show. I say this because I assume that you'd like your readers to have an informed basis on which to agree or disagree with your argument, because the alternative would be propaganda. I will now be reading the transcript of the show, located at http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/lkl.html, to see what you---curiously---omitted.
Actually you obviously didn't click the Larry King link because it's to that transcript.
This entry is cross posted from my other website and I say in the entry why I posted only on Janet. Did you miss that part, like you did the link to the transcript?
Uh, I watched the program. And I think the callers and Larry King's reaction to her was the same as mine. Janet Parshall has a very condescending churchlady demeanor that comes across poorly outside of the religious right community. If you are concerned about how the non-religious right viewer evaluated her, I can tell you that in a room filled with a cross-section of young people of different religious beliefs and political orientations, she was viewed harshly as a very meanspirited and small-minded woman. Also, many people thought it quite odd that she and the Southern Baptist dude couldn't definitely state that they had any close gay friends, which I think evidences their vicious animus against bisexual and gay people like Chad Allen. If they love gays and bisexuals so much, why don't think have any gay or bisexual friends?
Amazing. Mr. Mohler and Miz Parshall seem to have some profound insight into how Gay people ought to think and feel and behave, insights that those of us who ARE Gay must not have, despite firsthand knowledge and experience.
I was impressed by Chad Allen, on the other hand. He, like so many other Gay people of faith, has his own personal relationship with God. And I daresay that God understands his heart, mind, and motivations better than Mr. Mohler and Miz Parshall ever will.
And as for this "Love the sinner, hate the sin" crap, GIVE ME A BREAK. All the anti-Gay organizations out there that claim to be so compassionate still cling fiercely to the official party line, namely that:
1: Gay people must not have civil rights, such as protections from job discrimination.
2: Hate crimes laws that protect religions are OK, but hate crimes laws that protect Gay people are not.
3: Gays must not be allowed to serve in the military.
4: Gays must not be allowed to join the Boy Scouts.
5: Gays shouldn't be teachers in public schools.
6: Gay couples must not be allowed to adopt children.
7: Positive portrayals of Gay people ought not to be on TV.
8: Relationships and commitment amongst Gay couples (let alone MARRIAGE) is absolutely out of the question.
Love the sinner, MY ASS.
We as Christian must respect Christ in his admonishment of gays and divorce. We must pass a constitutional amendment which allows marriage to be One Man, One Woman, One time. This is in true keeping with Christ teachings. All second marriages would be anulled as this forces one to comitt adultery. We should also look at ammending the consitution to obey all of God's laws.

Jebusboi, you need to reread the New Testament. Jesus never admonished gay people anywhere. Paul does, but he's speaking for himself, not Jesus. I also think you need to understand the idea of the separation of Church and State.
The issue of gay marriage is a civil rights issue, not a religious issue. You don't have to have a religious ceremony to be legally married - an athiest couple who go to a justice of the peace and decide not to have kids are just as "married" as a Christian couple who procreate constantly. Gay marriage will have NO impact on the institution of marriage. It will not cheapen any existing marriages (only you and your spouse can do that). No one who disagrees with it has to like it and churches would not be "forced" to perform ceremonies (though many in MA are doing so voluntarily), but the existence of gay marriage will not impact how you live your life, what you do for a living, and how you raise your kids.
People like Ms. Parshall are just constantly full of anger and bile and keep spewing it out on a regular basis. I have to wonder what kind of person feels the need to put so much energy into non-stop negativism rather than using that for such moral and productive purposes as helping the poor, or working with kids or on the environment, for example. The only explanation is that Parshall wants media exposure no matter what and this kind of hate gets her attention.
It's also amusing that so-called Christians can be so threatened by a mere movie.
As a Christian, I was embarassed by Parshall's awful performance. The woman is filled with vile intolerance towards gays and lesbians. She is the type of person that makes people want to have nothing to do with Christians and Christianity. Most shamefully, she uses the veneer of religion to justify her irrational homophobia and bigotry. She definitely came off very badly on the Larry King show.

It is amazing. It is called the Bible. That's how we know what God thinks. Allen isn't a Christian. He is a man of spurious spirituality. He obviously thinks God is pleased with his life. He did not go home from that interview justifide.
Luke 18:11-14
11The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'
13"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'
14"I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
If Allen thinks he can stand before a Holy God then his pride condemns him, and unless he repents he will suffer the burning wrath of God forever. He will then know transcendant reality in its most horrible form. I hope that he turns from his false confidence before God.
The bible also supports polyamory, that is in the cases listed within the bible, one man and multiple wives. So, why not support that? Oh, and slavery, the bible was pretty big on slavery too.
Any student of the Bible knows that the Bible never supports polyamory. Every time it occurs in scripture it is immediately followed by wicked repercussions. Because everyone in the Bible, except Jesus, was a sinner there are many wicked actions. If you ignore the obvious consequences that the Bible presents then you are a fool.
On the topic of slavery: The Bible never condemns slavery. NEVER! And so slavery is permissible. The Bible puts strict guidelines on slave owners. Any slave owner who treats his slave wickedly must be ordered to repent of such wickedness, but there is nothing inherently wicked about slavery. Racism, on the other hand, is clearly wrong according to the scriptures.
The mistake you make is that you think you may judge the Bible. The Bible judges us. We don't judge it. We submit to it or suffer its judgments.
You people really need to stop worrying so much about our souls. We can take care of our own. Janet Parshall is one of the most condescending women I've ever heard. In fact, the whole Larry King episode was ridiculous. Only one of the guests even saw the movie, so the opinions of the other three are technically (and not surprisingly) irrelevant.
Besides, all the homophobes who hide behind the Bible should be thrilled with Brokeback Mountain because it doesn't end well for either character!
