Hamas wins. Yawn. The Palestinians have just performed a time honored tradition in Western-style democracies. They have voted the old crooks out and the new crooks in. The last elections held in both Canada and the US featured "Anybody but Party X" campaigns. The Democrats couldn't pull it off against Bush, but it worked in Canada. The Palestinian voters removed a corrupt, useless Fatah government by voting in the only viable alternative. This is just an extreme version of what happens all the time in North America. If anything, we should view it as an object lesson, and eradicate the practice here. If we can learn from this, well, very blatent object lesson, and start turning out candidates, parties, and platforms worth voting for, rather than the usual "Vote for Me - I'm not Him!" campaigns, then it will have been worth it. I hope. The Small Town Hick also blogs on Observations of a Small Town Hick and Page 10 International.
