General Hospital Is Not Conservative But It Is Immoral And Christians Watch It Because?
Aside from being cursed and told that I would burn in hell for eternity the majority of the feedback was that I was wrong in saying that General Hospital was conservative because not only was General Hospital not conservative, but it is immoral, promotes murder, adultery, glorifies illegitimacy, lying, stealing, greed etc. These readers are absolutely correct – GH is not conservative by promoting any of the aforementioned evils. My intended point in saying that GH was “one of the most conservative” had to do with the fact that up until now the soap had not integrated a homosexual character into their show. So in that regard GH was conservative, until now. However, what is even more telling is that the amount of email I received supporting this immoral and very liberal show came from people who profess to follow Christ. Those people I asked why they watched such a show knowing how evil and immoral it was and here are some of their answers: …..Hopes that the writing on the show would get better and be better written, despite its immorality. …..Nostalgia for the days when it was better… …..It appeals to prurient interests …..The actors are good looking ….Hopes the storyline will go back to the days of Luke and Laura In other words, Christians like the show for it’s lustful content. Which when you think about it really is sad, especially since Christians are supposed to be pure of heart and mind. Remember Job who said, “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl” in Job 31:1? If that covenant was good for him, shouldn’t it be good enough for Christian women as it applies to looking at anything lustful or immoral? Or is there some place for compromise while we wait for the writing to get better? And therein lies the problem – how are Christians supposed to impact the culture when they are enticed and seduced by the evil in the culture and ultimately are made ineffective for the kingdom because they ultimately buy into the lie of what is being portrayed. The adding of homosexuality to GH is just another hook into those hearts and minds because if Christian’s don’t speak out about the other evils, then they won’t against the sin of homosexuality either. Polygamy and bestiality will be mainstreamed next unless Christians begin to stand up now. Mark my words.
