Bibles Still Banned From Recess, ADF Files Suit The Karns Elementary principal has refused to recant his impromptu rule that Bibles cannot be read during recess. In response, the ADF has filed suit against the Knox County school district. Living in Knoxville, I know most aren't happy with our school board as it is and this will not help their public image. A 10-year-old student at Karns Elementary School and his parents, represented by attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit Wednesday against representatives with the Knox County school system. School and district officials prohibit students from reading and discussing the Bible during recess. I really don't see how the principal or the school system has any legal footing and I am surprised that they are even backing this. There is no way to keep anyone, student or staff, from reading their Bible during their free time. It violates individual religious rights and personal liberties. The only way would be to eliminate recess all together and I don't think that would go over well with teachers, students, or parents. Joshua Howerton blogs at Freedom Of....
