Hypertensive Pregnancies Aided By Viagra George Osol, a researcher at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, has conducted a study of the effects of Viagra (generic name sildenafil) on the arteries of the uterus in hypertensive pregnancies. He found that administering Viagra to pregnant rats with induced hypertension increased blood flow to the uterus and placenta. The study also found that the drug increased fetal weights into the normal range of values, as compared to untreated hypertensive babies whose weights were generally 20 percent lower. Viagra also decreased fetal mortality. Osol said that further study is necessary to understand how Viagra helps uterine vascular function and whether there would be similar benefits in humans.
