After the tragic shooting this week in Florida, of an unarmed youth, debate is focusing on Florida Law. Critics point out that no one has been charged in the case, and it has been blamed on a poorly written Florida self-defense law. Further adding to the controversy are statements attritbuted to the […]

The calamity of BP’s Deepwater Horizon disaster continues to put corporate reputation as a subject very much in the spotlight and, hardly surprisingly, many commentators contrast BP’s past attempts to claim the moral highground on environmental matters with the stark reality of what happened in the Gulf of Mexico. The idea that corporations should be […]

The Kony campaign is a day late and a dollar short, as the saying goes…and a lot of folks in Africa are annoyed that these do-gooders just noticed the fight, which has been going on for quite awhile.
Some Africans think they are cashing in on it (while libeling the good things going on in Uganda). […]

I see the anti Asian mafia have a new scalp on their belts, with the conviction of an Indian born student for a “hate crime” and invasion of privacy.
But lost in the homophobia meme of the politically correct is a question: Do students have the right to privacy in one dorm’s room? Because in this […]

Anti Catholicism has a long history in the US, an inheritance from England, where the religious wars for and against the regency of Queen Elizabeth led to Catholics being demonized as evil. ( Elizabeth was inconveniently conceived before her mother married, and many folks said her mother never married the king at all, so this […]

I had to laugh. Jane Fonda is among the fainting feminists who want Rush Limbaugh removed from the airways for insulting a woman.
Well, she has a point. Technically, the word to describe those of either or both sexes who have sexual relations outside of marriage is “fornicator”, and this is not illegal in the US […]

An article in yesterday’s National Journal - (http://www.nationaljournal.com/nationalsecurity/panetta-u-s-has-potential-military-plans-for-iran-20120308) by Yochi Dreazen, details comments made by Defense Secretary Panetta this week regarding both Syria, and the Iranian Nuclear issue. This article mentions The fact that the United States is weighing options and contingencies for conflict with Iran, and obviously this is no surprise. […]

I noticed two of my grandchildren and a niece had shared the “Invisible children” film on my facebook site.
This was a bit surprising, because one is a church going, volunteering teenager, the second is a sophisticated student in the UK, and the third one is a heavy metal music loving Goth.
But all are united in […]

Yes, we all remember back in 2008 when the coming of Barack Obama was hailed by some as the coming of the Messiah (I am not making a joke: see this Washington Post article), while a much better qualified Hillary Clinton was either ignored or put down as a loser by the pundits in the […]

I rarely come on all Catholic. I don’t feel entitled. My Catholicism was acquired via conversion; defending the faith seems best left to those who’ve held it in their heart all along and whose knowledge is more profound. Plus, I’m not a good Catholic in practice. Raised an atheist, I never set foot in a […]

The Wisdom and effectiveness of such an attack has been debated, and both U.S. and Israeli Government officials have weighed in on the topic. […]

There have to be clowns. Without them, we might cry a river during election years. Pinching your nose while voting brings tears to the eyes of many. So send in the clowns. Or at least– a really sharp comedy.

Most folks don’t like going to the doctor’s office, and nearly everyone hates “needles”, whether they be fingersticks, blood tests, or getting your flu shot.
But if you would ask people what is the worst test they ever had, they would say either a Barium Enema or a Colonoscopy.
Yet cancer of the large bowel is a […]

There is a nasty germ that has become more common in recent years, and it has become almost epidemic in some hospitals.
This bacteria, Clostridium Difficile (called “C Dif” by docs) usually starts after a person gets antibiotics. The reason for this is that if you carry the germ sitting quietly in your bowels, but […]

While down with the flu in January, I read a lot of Richard Stark. Aka Donald Westlake. A pile of volumes from Stark/Westlake’s Parker series towered on my nightstand. The adventures and misadventures of Parker, an ultra cold hearted professional thief, were the perfect antidote to fever.
The late Donald Westlake grew up in Albany, New […]

Though supporters of the Indian Child Welfare Act say it has safeguards to prevent misuse, Veronica and numerous other multi-racial children across the U.S have been hurt by it. Children who have never been near a reservation nor involved in tribal customs are affected. The Cherokee Nation alone is currently tied up in about 1,100 active Indian Child Welfare cases involving some 1,500 children.
