Fact: You want to do it in the cheapest way to society Answer: Put him in an institution far away, preferably one which will teach him a lesson and put him back in society without ancillary effects: Bastoey! Now, the alternative is to shoot him dead; he'd be gone, and no longer a threat to society. The worst thing you can do is waste 36k a year to let someone rot in a cell. Do not confuse your personal vengeance with the good of society. It's not about you at that point. Fact: You don’t want to be near the criminal

The Bastoey prison is NOT the standard for Norwegians prisons, and only prisoners about to be released are even allowed to *apply* to stay there! We *do* have in effect a "life sentence" if it is deemed necessary, however it's called "holding security" not imprisonment. It's only handed out if *society* needs protection from a particularly nasty individual. Furthermore, Norway is not "pacifist"! I know you Americans like to think everyone else is either socialists, communists or even pacifists, but Norway is a founding member of NATO - and my countrymen are on the ground in Afghanistan fighting! So don't you come here insulting my country, my countrymen or our brave soldiers/pilots/sailors! Talk about lacking understanding!
