About the scooter article: In 1959 when Kowashima and his associates commened business on Pico Blvd. I was general sales manager for Johnson Motors, Inc. Honda ensured our success when we finally agreed to allow our dealers to handle Honda. 

This letter I wrote to dealers wound up in Mr. Kawashima's wall behind his desk. We had the number-one "big bike" brand even ahead of Harley-Davidson in our territory *19 western states). . In six years Honda ensured our sucess: (Triumph). Oh yes, one scooter you didn't mention was the one built by Salisbury who designed the belt drive auto transmission. Salisbury was Bill Johnson's brother-in-law.

Those were interesting years. I liked your article very much - (you can read my DJB Composite Index in Dealernews the M/C Ind. trade magazine, an Advanstar publication.
