My issue is that many of the chronically ill, who decompensate frequently, will walk away from their homes in the community due to their disease pushing the paranoia to the point where they find peace... ...in homelessness, and no medication, decompensating to the point where they never come back from it. The cattle call/warehousing of psychiatric clients has been demeaning. Those patients should still be treated and sheltered, but the "big back ward" philosophy needs to be thrown out.
