Breaking News: The Big Interview: Lamin Waa Juwara Speaks! Part Three!!
“I don’t have  problem of meeting Jammeh.  He just a Gambian like myself.  What’s the problem about meeting him?  When President Jawara was in power, I met him  several times.  What is wrong about that?  Even if you want to meet Jammeh I can arraign it so that you can come back home.  What’s wrong about that?  You  want to …. Pa I want you to come.  Let go to Niamina. What’s wrong about coming home?  These people are scared of out of nothing.  You are scared of being arrested? Why should they arrest you?   Jammeh accepted Juwara to be in The Gambia. I’m older than him. I was born and I was a Gambian before him.  Am I not here? If Juwara can be in The Gambia, why not Pa Nderry? Any Gambian can come to The Gambia. So What? You will not be arrested.  I see no reason why you should be arrested. Why should you be arrested?  What have you done to be arrested?  Anyway, I don’t know. Pa Nderry, you and I who is more oppose to Jammeh?  Just to be honest.  Who was more his opponent me and you?  You and I?” These were the exact words of Lamin Waa Juwara . Mr.Juwara’s  proposed mediation between Yahya Jammeh and Editor M’Bai, which  was respectfully declined by the Editor. M’Bai informed Juwara that he had no intention of visiting or getting closer to the Gambia in the short term as long as Yahya Jammeh continues to be President of that West African country. But Juwara insists that he would guarantee M’Bai’s personal safety should he have any plans to visit home. Juwara says he was committed to take up the issue with the Gambian leader, but M’Bai maintains that he was not interested about talking to an evil despot like Jammeh. Juwara also had this message for Gambians abroad” I’m telling Gambians  abroad that Gambia belongs to us Gambians.  Gambians abroad who really want to be active in politics, I will tell them to come back home and we should  see what we can do about  our own country.  I’m not saying that everything in the Gambia is rosy.  That would be very hypocritical  without saying, I think there are many areas that we need improvement and as long as I live here I will be able to speak my mind and say what I think is right.  I may not be right, I may not be wrong.  But what is important….There is nothing wrong to be critic.  We must be action orientated. That’s important.  What you have to realize is that Jammeh has been in power for 13 years. That’s longtime you know….  Jammeh is not as bad as we have been saying.  If people can vote for him in free and fair elections, who Am I to say that they are wrong. They should not have done that.” Below is the part three of the interview.
………………………………………….

Freedom Newspaper:  Mr.Juwara, it appears that you are not happy that journalists and intellectuals are living the country. You are not happy about that?

Lamin  Waa Juwara:  Are you part of the struggle? You sit in America and said your country is fail state. What are you going to do?  You guys are just sitting there criticizing.  I can criticize when I want to. But even there, you people think that we are not doing the job.  What we are saying now is that: Why don’t you come back home? If you are criticizing us why should you run away?

Freedom Newspaper: So you are challenging us to come back home?

Lamin Waa Juwara:  In The Gambia?

Freedom Newspaper: Yes.

Lamin Waa Juwara:  Are you running away?

Freedom Newspaper: You tell me.

Lamin Waa Juwara:  Oh… Why don’t you come?

Freedom Newspaper: Okay Mr.Juwara, I got you on that point. Even though you are in the country, there is nothing you can do to change the system.

Lamin Waa Juwara:  Why are  you not coming?  Of course we are unable to change the system, by why are you not coming?

Freedom Newspaper:  So Gambians abroad should not be making the noise right?

Lamin Waa Juwara:  No I’m not saying that they should….. That’s their right. If they decide to stay away is their business. If  we decide to stay here is our business. But if you keep on interpreting  all our things without doing anything is unfair. You are telling me that your country is a fail  state. Why can’t you come help build it then?

Freedom Newspaper: Some critics contend that Yahya Jammeh being from a minority tribe should not rule the Gambia. What do you make out of such arguments?

Lamin Waa Juwara:  That’s absolute nonsense. I don’t even want to listen to that.  You people need to come back home to contribute to the development of this country. We should work to together to make sure that we don’t fail. How soon will you come? Why don’t you come? I’m just asking you.

Freedom Newspaper:  When the time ripe Mr.Juwara we will come back home.  But right now you don’t expect Pa Nderry coming to the Gambia.  Pa Nderry coming to The Gambia now means my death body. Where were you when they hacked my website and arrested people in the name of Pa Nderry?

Lamin Waa Juwara: Laughter… Ha ha ha ha ha…

Freedom Newspaper: Do you want to see my death body now?

Lamin Waa Juwara:  Pa Nderry, you and I who is more oppose to Jammeh?

Freedom Newspaper: Editor M’Bai ran into laughter… Ha ha ha ha….This interview is going to interesting Mr.Juwara.  I’m not insinuating that I’m more opposed to Yahya than you.  I’m not calling myself as a big opponent of Yahya Jammeh.

Lamin Waa Juwara:  Just to be honest.  Who was more his opponent me and you?  You and I?

Freedom Newspaper:  I want you to answer that question.

Lamin Waa Juwara: You were a journalist. I was a politician.  I went to Janjangbureh. I went to Mile Two.  Who was more oppose to him?

Freedom Newspaper: I too I have been arrested on numerous occasions by the police for merely doing my journalistic job.

Lamin Waa Juwara:  But what I’m trying to tell you is that I’m here.  You are talking to me. Is the same Juwara. I’m here.  Are you afraid of being arrested?  Are you afraid?

Freedom Newspaper: To be arrested? I fear for my life. I’m concerned about my personal security when I come back to the Gambia.

Lamin Waa Juwara:  So what about me?  What about me?

Freedom Newspaper:  Perhaps, you have good reasons to stay in the Gambia.

Lamin Waa Juwara:  Don’t I have a life?

Freedom Newspaper: You do.

Lamin Waa Juwara:  But I’m staying here. So you and I who love The Gambia?  Is a fail state and you are staying there in a comfort with all those things and you talking about the Gambia being a failed state. You people are not serious.  If they read my interview, they will say look at Waa saying all sort of rubbish and they would not come.

Freedom Newspaper:  What mistakes have this government committed in terms of governance?

Lamin Waa Juwara: Laughter… Ha ha ha ha..   Pa, I will live that to you to answer.  When you come to Banjul International Airport I will ask you that question and you will answer. Ha ha ha..

Freedom Newspaper:  Any final words to Gambians?

Lamin Waa Juwara:  I’m telling Gambians  abroad that Gambia belongs to us Gambians. They should not have done that.

Freedom Newspaper:  Have you spoken to President Jammeh since his victory?  Have you ever contacted him? May be by phone or by mail?

Lamin Waa Juwara: Absolutely not. That one, you can be rest assured. Absolutely not.

Freedom Newspaper: Has President Jammeh send some people to you to acknowledge your honest opinion on the elections?  That you were very honest to accept defeat?

Lamin Waa Juwara: Laughter… Ha ha ha ha….Not really. Not really.   Really it has not reached that stage, where he would send people to me and all these things like that.  For me,  what’s important… for all these 13 years, I did not speak to him, he did not speak to me.  We are all Gambians.  I have given my own life. I think the way I think, behave the way I behave.  There is nothing wrong about that.  But I’m able to stay here.  This is my country.

Freedom Newspaper:  But some people say Jammeh is scared of you because you don’t hide your feelings. That Jammeh accepting you in the APRC means disaster for him because you are such an unpredictable character who can spit at Jammeh without even noticing your actions. That you would criticize Jammeh while being part of the APRC. Perhaps, that’s why Jammeh is bid apprehensive of  not trying to  befriend you?

Lamin Waa Juwara:  He is not scared of me.  I think that is totally wrong.  Scare of me for what?  What can I do as an individual?

Freedom Newspaper: So if you have the cause to meet Jammeh you will  you do it?

Lamin Waa Juwara:  You say what?

Freedom Newspaper:  If you have the cause to see him, you wouldn’t hesitate to go to the State House to meet him?

Lamin Waa Juwara:  I don’t have  problem of meeting Jammeh.  He just a Gambian like myself.  What’s the problem about meeting him?  When President Jwara was in power, I met him  several times.  What is wrong about that?  Even if you want to meet Jammeh I can arraign it so that you can come back home.

Freedom Newspaper: Editor M’Bai ran into laughter.. Ha ha ha  Or really? Really?

Lamin Waa Juwara:  What’s wrong about that?  You  want to …. Pa I want you to come.  Let go to Niamina. What’s wrong about coming home?  These people are scared of out of nothing.  You are scared of being arrested?  You will not be arrested.  I see no reason why you should be arrested. Why should you be arrested?  What have you done to be arrested?  Anyway, I don’t know.

Freedom Newspaper: Mr.Juwara, I respectively decline you proposed mediation between Yahya Jammeh and myself.  I have no plans of visiting  The Gambia in the short tem. But somebody  reading this interview might say that: Who is Waa Juwara to arraign for Yahya Jammeh to accept Pa Nderry to come back to the country?

Lamin Waa Juwara:  Why not?  Jammeh accepted Juwara to be in The Gambia. I’m older than him. I was born and I was a Gambian before him.  Am I not here? If Juwara can be in The Gambia, why not Pa Nderry? Any Gambian can come to The Gambia. So What?

Freedom Newspaper: Fatou Jaw Manneh was arrested when she came to The Gambia.

Lamin Waa Juwara:  Who?

Freedom Newspaper: Fatou Jaw Manneh, the journalist.

Lamin Waa Juwara:  An so what? And so what?

Freedom Newspaper: That shows that the Government is not tolerant.

Lamin Waa Juwara:  And so what? I’m trying to tell you… And so what?  What had happened to Fatou Jaw Manneh?

Freedom Newspaper: She is going to court.

Lamin Waa Juwara:  Of course. How many times did I go to court? You yourself was reporting it.  You were there. And so what?

Freedom Newspaper: So do you want Pa Nderry to be arrested when he comes back?

Lamin Waa Juwara:  If you all decides to come back home and all of you are arrested and taken to court so what’s going to happen? You just scared. You cowards.
