I knew he had his problems off the field. Trouble seemed to follow him wherever he went, much like his brother Marcus during his final year at Vi Tech. But this, this is beyond redemption.
Yes, I have had pets all my life, including dogs. Like many pet owners and parents, we all get frustrated and angry at some animal behaviors. But dog fighting, for those who are wondering what the big deal is, is a dehumanizing systematic abuse of dogs, which are bred to tear each other limb to limb while sub-humans cheer them on and bet on the outcomes. There is no affection towards these animals. In fact, quite the opposite. They are void of affection and sometimes food so that they will become more aggressive. Domesticated dogs in heat don’t usually need a rape stand for breeding. That’s how aggressive they become. It’s doubtful any rescued dog can ever be integrated into a family environment, but at least they would be put down humanely. We’ve all read the indictment about how they are destroyed by their breeders. Sub-human, indeed.
I personally feel betrayed, sickened, and punched in the stomach. How anyone human can be involved in such heinous and systematically abusive acts — it puts Michael Vick a step down from serial killer (there are scientific links to animal abuse and serial killing). He is in the same pot as a child molester, who do much of the same — the systematic abuse, breeding, and sometimes killing of smaller humans who are incapable of standing up for themselves or fighting back.
While the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is deciding what and if his punishment may be, the Falcons need to suspend him indefinitely — now — and permanently should he be convicted. If not, the team might as well mail in all of its points to its opponents because the media circus has just begun. It’s the only way for the team to redeem its fans.
I wished it would have been anybody else. Nobody wanted to believe Mike Vick more than me. He betrayed me, the commissioner, his team. He is now box office poison. For the sake of the NFL fans and players as they embark into training camp this week, Mr. Goodell and Mr. Arthur Blank, please end this now.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackWe are talking about “dog”aren’t we? dog are not human, and, will never be human. If you ever watch a dog in the wild, they are naturally wild and tends to fight each other. So people lets get a life here. there are more important things out there, like homeless familes with children that went to sleep tonight under the bridge without a meal, and our fellow human beings dying form “Aids”.
I am completely in agreement with all the statements / comments made posted by Delicksen. Anyone out there that is in agreement with the acts that were done by Vick and in agreement with Dog Fighting really are a threat to a large part of our country. Humans NOR Animals were put on this earth to be abused, hit, starved, tortured or anything of the like. Anyone that could or would even want to abuse an animal obviously does have very deep problems & again poses a threat to many/ Yes, in comment to Yvonne’s statement, we are talking about dogs here! And yes, if dogs (or any animal for that matter) who would be left in the wild and have to fend for themselves, may resort to fighting - to stay alive! The whole point MISSED here, is that these dogs didn’t even have a choice or a chance in the matter. They were forced to fight! They didn’t deserve to be placed in that enviorment, and abused the way they were. Humans can communicate and get help - dogs can’t! They rely on Humans hearts and our God given human nature to be as kind & caring to them as we can be. It’s ok and everyone’s own choice to want to have animals or not to - but No One has the right to abuse them! The laws on animal abuse are critical and those who break the laws should pay! Unfortunately, Vick is getting Publicity from this (regardless that it BAD) and the truth of the matter is - he doesn’t deserve the time of day!
Dog fighting is a HORRIBLE CRIME not to mention the ABUSE to the ANIMALS!!! We have been raising and LOVING Dobermans for twenty years. They are part of our Family and we treat them like Children. The thought of Mike Vick is SICKENING!!! We don’t care if he is a “NFL Star” to us he is just another THUG! We care about ALL animals but we know that PIT BULLS are bred for one reason and one reason only. It isn’t the DOG’S fault…”NO BAD DOGS JUST BAD OWNERS”

i am a cincinnati bengal fan and nothing disgusts me more than being cruel to animals. i say send him to prison and make him fight
for some odd reason tell me why african americans like to fight dogs (lazy easy way to make money?)
I love dogs and would never hurt one but all this for some dog fighting?? Mike Vick I am sure wasnt actually the one cruelly finished them off. He may have been affiliated or just a big fan which deserves a fine and a big charitable donation to some animal foundation. SUSPENDING him for dog fighting is in my opinion not a good reason. He is innocent until proven guilty and you know hes got money for a good lawyer. I think suspending someone for charges is stupid. What if he doesnt get convicted?? The most exiting quarterback in the game with Vince Young second(had to throw that in there) is not going to get to play. Let the goverment do there job in convicting and if he does than he should be penalized by the league only if he is found guilty for a felony. I think he will get off or get the charges dropped down to misdemeaner. I said it here first. Dog fighting shouldnt be a felony anyway!!! They are animals put two dogs in an ally both hungry and they will fight for the food to the death if they are hungry enough. Animal Instinct!! Animals fighting animals, animals fighting people, people fighting people for sport has been going on for 1000’s of years get used to it. Its been around before you were here it will be here long after.
I cannot believe that there are those who cannot see anything wrong with animals viciously fighting one another to one dies or is injured and then killed. What does that say about us as a society?
Yes, we are talking about animals and not humans. Unlike animals, especially these dogs, they did not have a choice. Boxers have and can make a choice. Yes, animals do have “animal instincts” and so do humans, but again the animal in the case is not given a choice, but instead is forced through many methods, starvation, cruelty and so forth to act on those instincts. They become a product of their environment.
I do agree there are more important things taking place in the world, but no matter how you cut it, this is wrong and the perpetrators need to be punished. If Vick is found guilty, throw the book at him. If he is innocent, then let him play. Yet, I do believe though that regardless of what happens, whether he is found guilty or not, his career is over; and he only has himself to blame for it. I read a comment that basically said that someone (in the form of the NFL commissioner) is finally telling Vick, enough! Too many people throughout his life have allowed him to get away with things, simply because of his athleticism. There are too many people who are gifted athletes whose misdeeds are forgiven because of their abilities. That is simply wrong and sends the wrong message to our young. Maybe, just maybe, this will send a clear message that money, fame, fortune and athleticism cannot shield you forever.
Members of the “Congressional Dog & Cockfighting Caucus” should be held accountable as well–not just Michael Vick. They are the 39 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including my Congressman, Doug Lamborn (Col, R-5th CD), who voted against the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act–a bill to crack down on the barbaric and inhumane practices of illegal dog fighting and cockfighting, which, notwithstanding their efforts to defeat the bill, was passed in the House by a commanding vote of 368-39, and signed into law this year by President Bush. The bill was advocated by The Humane Society of the United States. The National Sheriffs’ Association also backed the bill because animal fights spawn narcotics traffic, public corruption, human violence and illegal gambling.
The comment by “Yvonne” (first comment on top) seems to be a little naive as well as a bit clueless: “If you ever watched a dog in the wild, they are naturally wild and tends (sic) to fight each other.” There really aren’t a lot of wild dogs to observe in the U.S. - some wolves and coyotes perhaps, maybe dingos in Australia - and they don’t “tends” to kill each other. The males usually fight a bit or make menacing moves until the lesser animal leaves. They are usually fighting over food or a female, not instinctively fighting to the death. Those of us who are concerned over Michael Vick’s alleged inhumane conduct are not putting the incident above “children starving under a bridge.” We are bothered by the fact that it is a small step from wholesale animal abuse to mistreatment of humans. The man who can watch a series of contests in which one dog tears another to shreds, and then kills the losing animal by electrocution, is not far removed from smacking his wife in the head when dinner is cold. Man’s inhumanity to man and animals is too widespread for one concerned person to cover all the bases. So forgive me, Yvonne, for focusing on the Michael Vick outrage. I believe it’s an enfranchisement that still exists in this country called free choice.
I THINK IT IS REALLY SAD WHEN AMERICANS WANT TO MAKE THIS A BLACK OR WHITE ISSSUE ….WHEN THE CASE IS NEITHER….THIS IS ABOUT ANIMALS BEING ABUSED, MISTREATED AND LEFT FOR DEAD *LET’S LEAVE IT AT THAT* BECAUSE I CAN ASSURE ALL OF YOU THAT THERE WERE MORE THAN “JUST BLACKS BEING LAZY AND MAKING MONEY IN THE DOG” MUST I REMIND *WHITE AMERICA THAT - YOU ARE THE ONES THAT INVENTED ” DOG FIGHTING” NOT BLACKS….BEING A BLACK WOMAN THIS ISSUE MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH THAT HUMANS CAN BE SO CRUEL TO SUCH HELPLESS CREATURES….I HAVE HAD DOGS ALL OF MY LIFE , EVEN PITTBULLS….NOT TO MENTION WHEN MY MOTHER PASSED AWAY OUR FAMILY PET WAS MENTIONED IN HER FUNERAL SERVICE…SO LET’S STICK TO FACTS !!!!
If Barry Bonds can get away with doing steriods then Vick will get his named cleared for fighting dogs…………These are Professional athelts that can get away with anything………you guys remeber O.J right………………?
Yvonne, Yes, dogs do fight “in the wild”. They do this to establish a pecking order. When the skirmish is over, the weaker dog is usually allowed to remain in the pack, so long as he remains in his place. In Mike’s world, it is a fight to the death. there is no place to hide. Giving up is not an option. Face it, dogfigting is a thug’s sport. It has no place in civilized society.
Compassion for animals is as necessary as Compassion for the homeless, living under the bridge or the person who has AIDS. Where were start on both sides is with our children. Mike Vick is not the role model to do this. If you want to make it a better world, to help the hungry, the homeless, those less fortunate we have to teach our children to be kind, to protect those smaller than them, to be tolerant of those different than they are. We do not want to teach them that is ok to promote violence in any kind. It is not ok to be a bully or someone that mistreats animals. It is necessary to teach the compassion to feel others pain, their misfortune, to stand up and protect, to help, to volunteer, TO DO SOMETHING! We all shake our heads say how bad things are but we never get up off our chairs and say today I will do something about it. If everyone did something, it would not take some much to get things done. Here is a website that promotes kindness to animals, http://network.bestfriends.org/. The educate and protect animals. The only thing Debbie said that I dont agree with is that these 54 or so dogs do not have to be put down. Sanctuarys Like Best Friends are equipped to take care of these dogs, So lets send these poor abused dogs to them for the remainder of their lives, and lets make Mike Vick pay them to take care of them as part of his Restitution. They will be well cared for and it will send a message for all of these criminals that are is a consequence, and it would be in a fashion that they can understand. $$$ Money $$$
P.S At the Best Friends Website they have a petition to sign to say “Its Not Cool To Be Cruel “. Take a moment and check out their website and sign the petition. This is way to let people in high positions know that we do care.

It’s our responsibility to take care of dogs, as they are domestic animals. They do not judge, they do not ask for anything but love, food and a home that protects them for the harsh elements. There are no bad dogs, just bad dog owners. It breaks my heart that someone would be so cruel to animals. They are helpless creatures. Mike Vick needs to be suspended for his actions. Shame, shame on him and anyone else who would participate in this type of entertainment.
Mike Vick is a subhuman animal himself. Anyone who could enjoy watching such a gruesome sight as these poor dogs tearing each other apart , much less forcing it to happen , doesn’t deserve the designation of human. As far as the comment about blacks. If the shoe fits ………… It seems that the majority of those in this gruesome enterprise were black. I am a Falcon fan but if they allow this animal back on the team I’m through with them for good!
To even defend Mike Vick or anybody else for that matter on this subject is as absurd as it gets. I am a pitbull owner and the breed gets a bad enough rap from all the stereotypical ” gangstas, tough guys” who train these dogs to be aggressive. I blame the media, entertainment industry, team owners etc. The media loves a good story–golden retriever mauls kid just does not sell newspapers. Do some research on dogbite statistics and you will be surprised at the so called social breeds that bite when”provoked”. Any dog can be made to be aggresive. When are towns states and cities going to start imposing laws structured on the responsibility of the OWNERS!!!! of these dogs not the dog. I am sick and tired of breed specific regulation as an easy answer to a problem. The pitbull is one of the most loyal loving, friendly breeds I have ever owned and have owned all kinds of dogs. I say fire Mike Vick,Deion Sanders for defending this with his absurd comments in his sports column and anyone else involved and why can’t anybody undertand what the word illegal means!!! Dogs do not have choices this is cruel whether it is a dog,cat ,bird, etc and as an owner it is YOUR responsibility to take care of the dog. on a personal note I do not care if it is a black athlete a white, indian, hispanic etc—-NFL commision and the public do not make this racial, this is not a racial attack it is about the law and abiding by it. When is society going stop treating people with money and fame somehow better, above and entitled. You can shave an a**hole and clean it up,shine it up,dress it up and at the end of the day you still have an a**hole!
