But you did bring up an interesting subject when you asked, "why Vick would place his reputation and lucrative career at high risk for a few thousand dollars...?" I can think of a few reasons why. He has obviously doing this for 5 or 6 years and while many people knew about it, nothing was ever done. Some sports figures who make a lot of money seem to start believing that they are so important that they can do anything they want. If they get "caught" they can usually buy their way out of it or someone else comes forward to defend them (like the NFL, the NBA, or fans, or people who make money off of them). While you say a few thousand dollars, I say that if you bet $30,000 on a fight it won't take long to make a million dollars (and would that be tax free money?) That could be enticing to some people. And last but not least, and even more scary, perhaps there's a violent nature in this person which would have come to surface no matter who he was or what he did? What happens when dog fighting doesn't excite them enough? You may think that pit bulls are a dangerous breed. So if you find out that dog fighters usually drive ‘black SUV’s’, will you condemn black SUVs as well, all guilty by association? Don’t condemn the whole breed because few use it for wrong reasons. And you quoted John Goodwin of the Humane Society of the United States, but you forgot to mention his connection to ALF (Animal Liberation Front), a terrorist group according to FBI.
