Tony Hicks, a 42-year-old man from Athens, Tennessee had a bad week. On Sunday he was hit by a car, on Monday he was robbed and beaten by an intruder, and on Tuesday he was shot by police after robbing a convenience store. It is still hard to say whether this makes him a very lucky or unlucky guy.

Hicks, who has a history of police shootouts, has played both criminal and victim this week. It all started Sunday when Hicks was hit by a car outside of his apartment. The female driver had been revving the engine before she struck Hicks and was charged with aggravated assault. He went to the hospital alone, was treated, and released that day. On Monday, Hicks reports that his apartment was broken into by an intruder with a knife. The burglar struck Hicks in the face with a coffee mug before robbing him. He was later taken to the hospital for treatment. Then on Tuesday night, Hicks is said to have entered the convenience store down the street with a white bandanna covering his face and what appeared to be a gun under his shirt. The clerk running the cash register was struck then told to open the register and run away while he took the cash, or he would kill them. The clerk said she ran to a customer’s car before heading to her mother’s house nearby.

When police arrived on the scene, they tried to question Hicks in a lot behind his apartment. He was said to have made “aggressive movements” to the questioning officers and threatened to shoot them. He began a countdown, and police shot him in the lower torso. They then found that he had a knife in his shirt instead of a gun. He was taken to the hospital for a third time and then released before heading to jail on Thursday. A judge ordered him to be held on $100,000 bond until a hearing could be executed on July 13. Hicks will be facing charges of aggravated robbery and attempted first-degree murder. Two of the officers involved in the shooting have been temporarily assigned to administrative assignments while the shooting is being investigated. It has been reported that it has been almost 10 years since the last officer-related shooting in the town of Athens.
