A product called “FlexiSPY” is being legally sold, which allows anyone (with the money to buy it) to invade the privacy of someone, who uses a smart phone.
Here is FlexiSPY’s marketing pitch (from their site):
Catch cheating wives or cheating husbands, stop employee espionage, protect children, make automatic backups, bug meetings rooms etc.
The FlexiSPY site blasts F-Secure, a security vendor, for calling their software a trojan, and claims FlexiSPY will not answer their e-mails. This is probably because F-Secure was the first one to question this software and it’s potential abuse factor. The site claims F-Secure’s true intent is to sell their own software, which can remove FlexiSPY.
This is partially true, billions are made in the spy versus spy (white-hat versus black-hat) world of computer security. Although, in all fairness, F-Secure isn’t the only on record that is worried about the use of FlexiSPY’s spyware.
According to FlexiSPY, their software IS NOT a trojan because it has to be loaded on a telephone by a human being, and the software doesn’t replicate itself.
I wonder how long it will be before a hacker figures out how to drop the software remotely? Of course, it also makes sense that FlexiSPY wouldn’t want someone to be able to replicate their software. Replicated software doesn’t make them any money.
I’ll leave it to the reader’s imagination how a product like this could be used by criminals, spies, or stalkers.
It never ceases to amaze me how some of these products are sold right over the Internet to ANYONE! It gives credence to the old saying, “there ought to be a law.”
Gizmodo states:
The software allows a sickening amount of privacy invading features.
While FlexiSPY is designed to install itself invisibly, it’s now been officially categorized as a trojan (which, face it, it really is) and has been added to F-Secure’s virus database.
A piece of software which allows a user to track another person’s mobile phone use would be almost impossible to use in the UK without breaking the law, according to a surveillance law expert.

Register story, here.
FlexiSPY acknowledges the same concern that the surveillance law expert brings up in the Register article about them:
It is the responsibility of the user of FlexiSPY to ascertain, and obey, all applicable laws in their country in regard to the use of FlexiSPY for “sneaky purposes”. If you are in doubt, consult your local attorney before using FlexiSPY. By downloading and installing FlexiSPY, you represent that FlexiSPY will be used in only a lawful manner. Logging other people’s SMS messages & other phone activity or installing FlexiSPY on another person’s phone without their knowledge can be considered as an illegal activity in your country. Vervata assumes no liability and is not responsible for any misuse or damage caused by our FlexiSPY. It’s final user’s responsibility to obey all laws in their country. By purchasing & downloading FlexiSPY, you hereby agree to the above.

I think its wonderfull. Women love to play games with the cell phone thing. I’ve been a victim of that myself. My wife was dropping my kids off at different peoples houses when telling me she was shopping. She then would go over to her boyfriends house. Although this person was a friend from many years back it still was fish smelling. I caught her with other types of software like spector soft and accutracking. Now she is a good girl. She also knows that if I catch her again it will be divorce no questions asked. I only try to make it work for now for the sake of the children. So I would like to how is this wrong. I own the phone technically and I’m protecting my kids.
This is just sad. Whatever happened to privacy? Some things need to remain unnknown. My two cents.
Performing a hard reset on any handphone will remove either Flexispy or other spy software. Don’t forget to back up your data in wallets, directories, etc., before the hard reset.
JUST SO AS NOT TO MISLEAD ANYONE, I’d like to correct the above posting. A hard reset WILL NOT remove flexispy from your phone. Go to the flexispy website. Read up what the company who makes the program says about it. You will not know it’s on your phone, unless you run a 3rd party anti-virus / anti-spyware program that is KNOWN to detect flexispy.
Oh, it’s a dastardly little program, that one. Don’t underestimate it for a moment….
I’ve had flexispy on my wife’s iphone for about 4 months now. It is pretty awesome. I never knew how much she lied to me!! It’s incredible, you think you know someone…. I’ve discovered she is a pathological liar! and that’s no exaggeration. By the way, I bought the phone, the accounts in my name, and I pay the bill. Illegal? I think not!
How do you intall it on another phone and can you install it on several phones at one time.
I am doing an independent review on the Flexispy software, if anyone has any feedback or comments after using the software I would appreciate the feedback.
yeah, it’s not just a fleispy, there are so many applications out there that can do this sort of stuff. There is one company that acually speicalizes in removing, detecting and preventing spying on the phones, its http://www.idftaskforce.com
Local Authorities need to be aware of these sorts of software. And yes, it can be considered wire tapping, which is a Federal crime.
There ought to be a logger in existence to more or less log the activity and origin of tracking software like this. Simply log the source that it comes from, and do it passively so that it cannot be detected by the tracking software. Noone besides the police, your employer (check company policy), or your spouse is legally allowed to monitor your phone. Someone monitoring your phone can have some very serious implications. (they can watch you through the viewfinder in the camera also … imagine that)
i don’t see how that’s going to help
For every positive use of FlexiSpy there’s thousands of abuses. Politicians will vote for something evil when they’re terrified they’ll be outed as ‘gay’.
If your spouse is cheating, they’re a manipulative liar. But if you give your spouse a tapped phone without telling them, YOU are also a manipulative liar.
Owning a bug doesn’t make it not a bug. This kind of software should be illegal without a warrant.
So you would like to give this power only to law enforcement to abuse legally would you?
Wouldn’t it be a twist if it was actually used to apprehend corrupt law enforcement officers?..and beat them at their own game?
