a nicely remembered opinion of the voice from heaven. as a former guitarist of 38 years until a severe stroke at age 49 silenced me 6 years ago at age 49. i always said if i could be reborn with any vocalists voice it would be greg lake's. from the court of the crimson king on to'watching over you' and 'from the beginning'. what a voice1 true father christmas has a strange lyric or two but it's adaptation of the old russian composition on organ phrasing by emerson nicely sets up a wholly worshipful tone in greg lakes singing of father christmas. i once while spending a christmas eve night at the first home of my oldest dearest friend was lulled to sleep by the radio playing 'father christmas' for my first ever hearing of it. it may be a bit odd or not quite traditional in lyric but sounds beautiful for a christmas eve bed time melody
thinking of the kids in the morning. i only wish it were an entire lp side'sworth composition. seing ELP live once in my college years in 1978 lake was ever as ecellant in person as the studio. and the variety of multistringed basses and guitars he played were awsome.
