I agree with Melanie above... the ONLY reason I believe he was given so long for a check is because of his tattoos. People judge someone on looks, just because he has pride in his race, he gets no justice, just like anyone with any kind of tattoo most people judge you for one reason or another, its crap. Curtis is a VERY sweet person, get to know someone on the inside before you judge him. I give him MUCH respect for being who HE is and not what people want him to be. Love ya Wood~!

I know when I look behind Curtis's eyes her has some life left in his soul, you can see it. Under all the anger he is scared. He chose a bad path and I am sure he did not intend to do what he did, turns of events led to his fall. I feel bad for the dead CO and his family but I also know Utah prison should be held accountable, I agree why would you send one man if Curtis was so evil? I know given I was going to prison for 8 years I may try to run also, and I know if I was the CO and a con took my gun ,hell that is not worth my life, run and when I get more help I will track the man down. We do not know anything about Curtis or his family or their life, and even if the parents raised him wrong, there comes a time in life when we grow up and make our own choices. I feel bad there are children left with no father on both ends. And both ends are given a death sentence. Curtis got thrown in jail for a check, but I got a child molester a mile down from the road from me, so how is this justice? They get off free and we condemn a man over a check? That makes sense. You know life must suck for Curtis, the CO's must treat him like a dog, and in turn all that he is in will just make him a more angry man. So this story sucks all around for everyone.

We all make our own choices. Had the system corrected him when he was younger he probably wouldn't have kept trying to get away with things. Maybe you should contact Pennington County. I never remember anyone ever saying this happened, I was 15 then so not much I could've done anyways. And I can tell you we've NEVER ran anyone out of town, I think if we had that much power we could've changed Curtis. I agree he should've been held accountable but that would be up the authorities and if they didn't help you I'm sorry but not a reason for you to go on here and say I'm pathetic. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but cops never showed up at our house to investigate him on this. And I know who he married...we're still close and tell each other most anything, she would've said something if this happened to her. She hates him for a lot of reasons, but as far as I know that's not one of them. My mom did punish us to the point I can't even say what she did to us on her. My dad taught us to be accountable for our actions. Our mother and I haven't hardly talked in two years so I can tell you I won't be telling her much. We've never condoned what he's done and we are mortified by all that's going on. BUT we have seen him ONCE in 7 years. You can have your opinion but I'm not pathetic...I'm nothing like him. I have as normal of a life as possible and just 'cause a family member is this way doesn't mean everyone is. I'm SICK of everyone thinking just because he's screwed up that the rest of us are like that. Again I'm sorry to you but the cops didn't do anything to help you. Don't blame us for it. And yeah that is the reason he got sent to Prison check the records. Even the director of the Utah Prison has said it. He has gotten 1,000% worse since going to Prison. My parents have been victimized by him as well...trust me it's not like it's been easy for us ever and now we have to know that a familly member took someone's life...we DIDN'T...

Maybe if someone , namely his parents, would've gotten him help when he 13 years old this all could have been avoided. He tried to rape me, I tried to press charges & ended up ran out of townby his family & friends. The worst part is that other girls came forward & said he had harrassed them & shortly after I left town he BRUTALLY raped one of those very girls. I don't know that this is true....but I heard the girl later married him. I wonder if he was a violent predator at 13 why the hell he was on the streets to "write a bad check" which is what his pathetic sister says is the only reason he was in prison. Mellissa, if you are reading this tell your folks they reap what they sow. I f he'd have been held accountable for his actions as a youth like everyone else is maybe he wouldn't think he's above the law. I HOPE & PRAY they are being ostricized & I hope they feel as shunned as I did when I came forward because I didn't do it to punish him. Even after what he did, I still saw potential for a good person....if he'd have gotten help then how many people could your parents have protected from being victimized by Curtis in one way or another. I forgave him years ago, but now you know I haven't forgotten.

Nice job Utah state corrections!! one 60 year old guard for an inmate that was named Utahs most wanted. A maximum classified prisoner, also a gang member. And they send one 60 year old man, and he takes off his cuffs? People were hurt and their lives were threatened.

Aesha -

How about we all sit down around a roaring camp fire and sing "Kumbaya"?
As for you comment of "Being responsible for our own actions"....Bingo was his name o.

Curtis screwed up,got thrown in prison.
Curtis killed a corrections officer.

I haven't failed Curtis...he did.

If Curtis ever gets out, which I doubt highly, perhaps you can have him over.

Discuss his inner child, his wants, needs and desires.

Hold hands and sing while running through the flowered fields.

When I read this story many emotions surfaced....sorrow, empathy, disappointment, rage. While it is easy to point fingers at Curtis or his family the bottom line is that we all loose in this situation. We lost two human beings that had families that loved them, children that are fatherless & a society that is wondering why? Who should we really point the finger at...the parents for not being more involved in their sons life or maybe not being more involved when he went astray. The correctional officer who was not trained properly that didn't treat him like a human being because he was lost & made a mistake. Society for becoming so shallow & not willing to help someone when they know that person is heading down a desperate path of destruction. No one is perfect, I'm sure this young man was not always this way. We as a society have to stop pointing fingers & start getting to the real issues. While we are all responsible for our own actions we also have a responsibilty to each other. If we continue to be judgemental, turn the other cheek, have the mindset "that could never happen to me or my family," we are doomed. We have to learn to LOVE again, put God first & understand that the same person that you are so quick to condemn & turn your back on could be the same person that is your child's teacher or your neighborhood pedafile. The doctor that saves your mothers life or the coward who takes her life. We all failed Curtis Allgier because as I look beyond the tattoos & blank stare, I see a young man who was destined for so much more. The healing process has to start now or our sons & daughters will live in a society full of hatred, crime & sorrow. I will take on the challenge, will you?

Thanks Heidi....
To Billy Bob:
I understand the anger...BUT just because someone in your family is a certain way doesn't make the whole family that way. The family was a church going family and had a normal family life. Curtis's idols were Michael Jordan, MC Hammer, & Kirby Puckett...all black americans! He got married had two kids and had a normal family. He stole a check for $300 and went to Prison, had to join a gang to survive. This is how he came out after all that...if you read what the Director of the Utah Corrections says he even admits Curtis was not like this UNTIL he went to prison. The family is far from Perfect but just 'cause he did this doesn't mean the rest of us are like this. Watch SLC ABC 4 and listen to the interviews with us before you start judging...I know because I'm his sister. I am sickened and mortified what happened and wish I could change this, my heart is breaking for this family of Officer Anderson...I have no idea how to even move past this, it will never go away. Again I understand how you feel, but don't start blaming the family 'cause it started 7 years ago in Prison.

This guy is a statistic. That's all he is. When you have 2,000,000 behind bars at any given time, escapes are bound to happen. Every now and then one will go awry and something really tragic like this will happen.

Yeah, he should be put to death. I don't have a problem with that. But what kinds of lives do people lead who get angry about this. It's a flippin' news article, for cryin' out loud.

John,
As one Texas to another, I don't think you're an overpaid baby-sitter, regardless of what Rick Perry says.
Thank you for your service to our great State.

Curtis Allgier is a subhuman piece of excrement. Someone said he has a wonderful family. Well, evidently not wonderful enough. Where was his dad when Curtis was a young punk? The man shoulda kicked Curtis' ass. Where was his mom? She shoulda been dragging him to church! I have zero sympathy for the dirtbag. I do not believe for a minute that Allgier's family are "Victims in this, too." Goddamn them for subjecting the rest of the world to their perverted, twisted, relative. If he was my brother, I woulda ratted him out to the cops a long time ago. Failing that, I woulda put a hollow point right in the middle of his forehead.

I am having a hard time coming up with the words to describe how much contempt I have for Allgier. Basically, In the US, if you are a white man, and you have any kind of brain at all, you can succeed. Curtis Allgier couldn't even do that. How effing pathetic. His malignant narcissism made him think he was somehow "above" doing the kind of work that most people do. So, instead of being a man, a "stand-up" guy, he goes and blames society's least fortunate for his own sad situation. Look, dickhead...you went and hung out with a gang of racist methamphetamine addicts. What the hell did you think was going to happen?

I just wish he woulda resisted more when the cops arrested him. If this were a truly just world, Curtis Allgier would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, sipping his meals through a straw.

Let me put it this way. I'm fine with Curtis Allgier getting sparked for killing a presumably good cop, if I can be excused morally and legally for shooting any of the thousands and thousands of cops who are just as brutal as Allgier. If, say, the cops who shot up Amadou Diallo had been subject to any of the fates Allgier deserves, maybe I'd have some sympathy for your positions.

This pathetic piece of crap doesn't deserve to live. Think he's seen hell? Wait till he gets his shit pushed in, then gets his ass fried.

"When law enforcement makes mistakes, law enforcement pays for them, sometimes with their lives." Remember that the next time your getting your ass robbed or your watching your girl get raped. Maybe the police will "make a mistake" and turn off on the wrong road on the way to your house.

No one needs to be shown the door to hell if he's already been through it. Mr. Allgier has his gripes that's all. When law enforcement makes mistakes, law enforcement pays for them, sometimes with their lives. It is no different on the street

To comment on Mr. Allgier's upbringing. He has a wonderful family, and had a fairly stable upbringing in South Dakota. They are victim's in this too, so please refrain from attacking them. Prison does a lot of things to people. Survival of the fittest.
