		<description>I don't think Trent Lott and many of the other Republicans supporting the bill are doing so because they want to "celebrate the fact that they can compromise."  Seems to me like they're doing so because, while they may not agree one hundred percent with legalization, they recognize that in a Democrat controlled Congress, no kind of legislation can pass without it.  That's why most of the amendments now have to do with exactly what kinds of fees and requirements are to be imposed upon the undocumented.  It's a way of making amnesty (or legalization, or whatever else we might call it) easier to swallow for fence-sitting Republicans.</description>
