A recent report estimates that the U.S. will have laid out 2.3 TRILLION dollars on the Iraq war and its aftermath by the year 2016. At the same time reports are also flowing in from around the country of breakdowns in our basic infrastructures, failed controls on federal outlays, fraudulent milking of same, escape from corporate and highest income bracket tax paying.
To use but two example in the news — our airlines will be overextended this summer because we have not updated our air traffic control technology since the 1950s. Take a change of clothes with you to the airport — you may end up sleeping on the floor overnight. The FEMA fiasco continues — hundreds to thousands of house trailers parked in massive lots and vandalized — not worth the time or money to track down or halt the vandals. Guess where our National Guard troops are hanging out?
Enough said here. Daily the reports are rolling in that we are a wealthy nation that is blowing its wealth in all the wrong directions — and we have not even made a dent on the terrorists. We may even be preparing to fund them in Iraq:
Armies are trained to fight wars — not to occupy and placate hostile nations or factions therein. Needless to day, these arms for the Sunnis may or most likely will be used against us and/or their Shiites fellow Iraqis.
Is this not all madness? I see no sense in it at all, at all!
“A war is just if there is no alternative, and the resort to arms is legitimate if they represent your last hope.” (Livy cited by Machiavelli)
