Another factory closing will cost yet another small Midwestern U.S. town about 1,200 jobs.
INside Indiana Business is reporting that Guide Corp. plans to shut the doors of its facility in Anderson by July of next year. Guide produces automotive lighting to car manufacturers.
Earlier this year, employees at Guide’s tail-lamp plant in Anderson were offered buyouts and some were given the option of transferring to a General Motors Corp. plant. Despite the forthcoming job losses, Anderson Mayor Kevin Smith is confident his city will survive the plant closing because of recent efforts to “reshape its economic future.”

Kudos to you and the geniuses on your city council for running on a platform of economic development. The smartest thing I ever did in my life was leaving Anderson in 1982 (thank God for Indiana University!) and never coming back.
