A man who had allegedly planned to kidnap David Letterman’s son two years ago has recently escaped from prison. Kelly A. Frank, 45 along with William J. Willcutt, 22, were found to be missing after working on a crew to move irrigation pipe at the prison ranch in Butte, Montana. Willcutt was the first to be noticed missing around 4:20 p.m. that day along with a 1965 truck. The prison was locked down and a head count was executed to discover that Frank was also missing. The truck was found off prison property around 5:30 p.m, and there has been no sign of them so far.

Frank was serving a 10 year sentence for felony theft for allegedly overcharging Letterman for painting the talk show host’s Choteau, Montana ranch in March 2005. He was also charged with a misdemeanor of obstruction for lying to an investigator about a kidnapping plot he had told to an acquaintance to kidnap Letterman and girlfriend Regina Lasko’s young son Harry, born in 2003 along with his nanny. He had planned to hold the two for $5 million ransom. The nanny would be taken along to care for the child during the kidnapping. Prosecutors later dropped the charge of solicitation to kidnap in exchange for guilty pleas on the other charges. Frank was also convicted back in 1999 of holding his girlfriend at the time against her will.
