Today we learned that The Former Vice Presidential Aide will do some time for his offense. The interesting thing to note, while watching the editorial banter in the national media, is the debate on the “fair or unfair” sentence. Never mind the hype of the Plame incident, as one editorial pointed out, (”Ms. Plame and her husband have benefitted financially from the public relations circus that they have created”), but what about the perjury charge?
Doesn’t anyone remember the Martha Stewart case? All the hullabaloo about Martha going to Jail over a white collar “no one got hurt” crime? She went to prison for perjury, not cheating in the stock market as was widely reported. One thing that remains constant in our legal system, never mind the investigation, or the underlying offense, - wake up and remember, that if you lie to the FBI and a Federal Prosecutor or Grand Jury, under oath, you are going to Jail, no matter how rich or pompous you are.
Oh, and what a shock about Rep. Jefferson, I guess Nancy Pelosi will not be appointing him to that Homeland Security seat after all. As most newsreaders know, this indictment was long overdue, and no surprise. I guess the House Speaker doesn’t read her briefings.
