Harry Potter fans all over are saving both their allowance and their excitement for what will prove to be a huge summer for the franchise. Not only is the fifth movie based on the books, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” set to premiere on July 3, but the seventh and final book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” will be released on July 21. Now there is talk that Potter author J.K. Rowling has approved the creation of a Harry Potter theme park set to open in Orlando, Florida in 2009. With the boy wizard having become the most popular fictional character around, Mickey Mouse should be nervous.

The park will be partnered by Warner Brothers Entertainment, who puts out the Harry Potter films which have made more than $3.5 billion worldwide and Universal Orlando Resort who, like Warner Bros., is owned by CNN. Barry Meyer, the chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Entertainment has stated that fans write in all the time wishing they could visit Hogwarts, the school that Harry attends. Now, they may be able to.

Rowlings books have sold 320 million copies, and fans can’t wait to see how the saga ends, especially after reports that two of the main characters will die. With speculation that one of these two characters may even be Harry Potter himself, even popular American authors John Irving and Stephen King have asked Rowling not to kill him off. To kick off the release of the new book, Rowling will host a moonlight reading for fans at London’s Natural History Museum. A sweepstakes is being held by Bloomsbury Publishing, the company that publishes the Potter books as well as Scholastic publishing to decide which fans may attend. Until then, fans will be able to kill the next few weeks by blogging about the new film. While I am personally not a fan of the Potter books, I am excited for those who are and hope they enjoy the month of July.
