New England Patriots defensive end Marquise Hill was found dead in New Orleans’ Lake Pontchatrain on Monday afternoon after he and a friend fell off a jet ski Sunday night. He was 24-years-old. The two were not wearing life vests when the jet ski toppled over. The unidentified woman who was with Hill survived by grabbing a pylon and holding on until she was rescued and taken to Tulane Medical Center. Hill kept her calm until he drifted away and disappeared in a current near a major shipping canal. His body was found about a quarter mile from where he had disappeared. His family and friends are naturally devastated by the accident.

Hill attended LSU and was a second-round draft pick by New England in 2004. He only played 13 games in his NFL career but never did get a chance to start for the team. He spent a lot of time with Hurricane Katrina relief, helping to rebuild the homes of his mother and the mother of his 2-year-old son. His fiance, Inell benn and friends including fellow Patriot Randall Gay had waited onshore during the search. He had planned on doing his off season training at LSU’s Baton Rouge campus about 80 miles from New Orleans where he was a respected figure on campus.
