Do it once, shame on him, do it 89 times, shame on…him. Daniel Montano of San Francisco has been leaving his mark throughout the city of Pittsburgh. On Monday, 22 year old Montano was caught and arrested for the fourth time, this time charged with 89 counts of criminal mischief and one count of defiant trespassing. He is said to be responsible for at least 88 different taggings throughout East Liberty. It’s not hard to recognize this particular artist’s work as he clearly marks each piece with the name “MFONE” and was proud to confirm that this was his secret identity. Police even found a video camera in Montano’s possession which documented several of his pieces. Obviously, this is an artist who truly takes pride in his work.
The total damage that his work has caused has been totaled at $579,989, and Montano is currently being held in the Allegheny County Jail on $10,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for 8 a.m. on May 29. This is a step up for authorities who sentenced him to less than a week in jail and a $1,001 fine when he was arrested in April in connection with three incidents. City Councilman Bill Peduto, whose area was the hardest hit by Montano’s creative expressions is seeking full prosecution this time around, hoping that a strict punishment will change Montano’s mind about how he plans to express himself in the future. Right now, he appears to be enjoying the fame, attention, and spotlight that comes with being a convicted vandal.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackbackdaniel montano is by far the best young artist in pittsburgh if not the country. I don’t mean just graffiti, his canvas paintings are brilliant. One look at them would make you question the ground you walk on and the air you breathe. it’s honestly worth a look.

So what! Does that make him exempt from responsibility? ….idiot.
I guess not, but you’ll be selling that piece of wood with his tag on it for thousands of dollars in a few years so be my guest and paint over it if you like plain concrete and primer… dork

…you both choose to engage in personal attacks rather than discuss the actual product of mfone? j doeskee is right, he’s a darn good artist but that is not to say that he isn’t more successful as a criminal right now.
