Ignore position entirely.

You don’t have to pick a side in the abortion debate to know this is wrong. Cheryl sent me this one last week, and I’ve been waiting for a chance to sit down and blog about it since.

An 18-year old young lady attending UCLA went to Planned Parenthood where she posed as a pregnant 15-year old girl. She went in ostensibly to obtain an abortion with her 23-year old boyfriend. Even in California, that’s statutory.

Planned Parenthood not only didn’t report the incident, they instead suggested to her that she lie about her age to protect her boyfriend.

“If you’re 15, we have to report it. If you’re not, if you’re older than that, then we don’t need to,” explained the employee in the recording. “You could say 16…well, just figure out a birth date that works. And I don’t know anything.”

Unfortunately for Planned Parenthood LA, the young lady was working on an article for a pro-life magazine, The Advocate. Even more unfortunately, the young lady had the foresight to bring a hidden tape recorder.

So, did Planned Parenthood admonish the worker who made such a suggestion? Did they pledge to look into the matter and work to reform?

They demanded (in a letter signed by Mary Jane Wagle, CEO of PPLA) that the young lady relinquish the original recording (and all copies), and have threatened her with a lawsuit seeking three times the “damages” — $5,000.

Not sure what the law is in California, but in Ohio, only one of the people involved in the conversation being recorded has to consent to it for it to be legal and admissable in a court of law.

“This lawsuit threat is an example of Planned Parenthood using intimidation against those willing to expose its crimes,” explained Rose in an email to The Christian Post. “Planned Parenthood is a $900 million operation. Instead of threatening me with a lawsuit, Planned Parenthood should call a press conference condemning its staffers and promising major reform to protect young girls. Instead, they are threatening a college student.”

The young lady went on to observe, “Imagine a major corporation had been exposed for committing crimes in order to pad its bottom line. There would be a parade of congressmen demanding hearings and reform. Young girls are at risk and Planned Parenthood is receiving federal tax money. The federal government should investigate this and Planned Parenthood, like any other corporation, should be held accountable.”

It will be interesting to see where this one goes.
