"They lie because they’re liberals. It must be in the handbook."

I am not only liberal, the only gun laws I believe in are the Four Rules (Treat every gun as though it were loaded, never point your gun at anything you are unwilling to destroy, keep your finger off the trigger until you are lined up with your target, be sure of your target and what is behind it).

There are many liberals who believe in those Four Rules, and are strongly against gun control.

People like Gerber, though, spout lies because, often, they don't bother to check their sources, or they spout lies knowingly for the sake of their own ends.

Can we leave liberal out of this, yes some times the two go hand in hand but I am both very liberal and very pro-gun. The author didn't lie because they were liberal, they lied because they were immoral and only cared that everybody believed in the same bullshit they did. This article is not about liberals or abortion, it's about gun control and the paranoid selfish lying nutjobs who want us all defenseless.

I'd be willing to bet this "Gerber" guy is OK with abortion also. How many lives does this "weapon" take per year?

They lie because they're liberals. It must be in the handbook. Actually you are correct, they lie because the facts don't support what THEY want. And let's face it, they're smarter than the rest of us.

The problem that we face when trying to convince anti-gunners that they are wrong is this: Gun control makes sense. The idea that fewer guns on the streets will result in fewer crimes seems like common sense. It is very hard to convince someone to disregard common sense. The strength of an idea may even drive a person to invent evidence to support their side of the issue.

What we need to point out is that something that makes sense, can still be wrong. 600 years ago, it was commonly believed that the world was flat. It made sense. That did not make it true. People used to believe that heavier objects fell faster than lighter ones. Common sense, right? Yes, it is common sense, but it is still wrong. Just as with gun control, research proves that even though it makes sense, it's wrong.

An excellent quote I read recently found said, "Disarming the innocent does not protect the innocent." People don't understand that there is a difference between taking guns off the street and taking guns away from criminals. I'm sure you have heard the term "common sense gun laws." Permitting concealed carry puts more guns on the street. Common sense tells us that there will be more gun violence, more crime, if there are more guns on the street. However, examination of the facts shows that right to carry, and concealed carry actually lowers crime. You see, no law will make a criminal turn in his gun, so the next best thing is to deter crime by giving his victim the means to defend himself. Well, since common snese runs contradictory to the facts in this issue, common sense gun laws just don't work. What we need are well researched gun laws; laws that take into account the facts, not the opinions.

We need to let pro gun-control people know that we can see the issue from their point of view, and that their point of view does make sense. However, we need to point out that just because something makes sense, that doesn't mean it is correct.
