Back in the early 90’s, it was a rare occasion that on Sunday at 7pm  I was not glued to the TV watching Jim Henson’s wonderful series Dinosaurs. Using the same style of characters that we met in the Muppets, Jim introduces us to the marvelously eclectic Sinclairs. A family of dinosaurs that have to face the day to day trauma’s that every family has to deal with! The animatronics are outstanding, and the characters are so well developed that you want to go visit them!

Jim Henson was a masterful storyteller, and Dinosaurs, at least in my mind, was his finest creation. Silly enough to appeal to the kids, but with enough innuendo to appeal to the parents. This is a very difficult balance to bring about in any genre of entertainment, yet Jim Henson has this down pat.

When I first heard about Dinosaurs being released on DVD I mentioned it to some of my friends, and every one of them did the same thing, they scratched their heads, thought about it for a little while and then said… “Not the Momma”. This was what Baby called his daddy Earl!

In this, the final two seasons of this smash hit, Daddy Earl has to face his “diaperphobia”, Charlene’s theory that the world is round lands her in scholastic hot water, and teen son Robbie deals with overwhelming pubescent urges (that’s sex folks!).

All in all Dinosaurs is great family entertainment, and a ‘must have’ in anyone’s collection. As Baby would say “I’m The Baby Gotta Love Me”.

Dinosaurs is available through Walt Disney Home Entertainment and should be in your local store soon. The list price is almost $40, but this is a 4 disc set with some additional material that has never been seen before, so I think this is a steal of a deal. Go out and buy this, your family will love you.

I give this one 5 T-Rex’s out of 5.
