South African cricketer, Herschelle Gibbs’ revelations about match-fixing in cricket have not gone down too well in his own country.

Former South African cricket chief Dr Ali Bacher is on record expressing his displeasure over Gibbs’ India visit and his consequent questioning by the Indian Police six years after the scandal broke out in 2000.

And now, his former fellow team-mate Jonty Rhodes has joined in the disapproval of Gibbs’ actions.

The reactions of the cricketing fraternity from South Africa is perplexing more so due to the fact that the supposedly “sensational” revelations by Gibbs have been a public knowledge from the past 6 years, when the SA-commissioned Kings Enquiry Commission summoned Gibbs for his role in match-fixing. In the present situation, Gibbs has merely reiterated his position before the Delhi Police.

And if Gibbs’ deposition was fine before Kings’ Commission, how can it be wrong before the Delhi Police? The cricket-loving public wants to know the truth behind the opposition of Gibbs’ deposition from SA cricket bosses.
