Traditional societies (including Judism, Catholicism, Hinduism and Confucius) see people not as individuals but as members of a family. Since the gay lifestyle is impossible in traditional families (i.e. risk of disease before penicillin, no children to support you in your old age, pedophilia against younger family members) it is forbidden.
Similarly, since pregnant women are at risk, they are protected by marriage. The argument about "rights" is a false argument, because it assumes a single woman doesn't need anyone, and assumes that sexual promiscuity is not harmful to society (either homo or heterosexual promiscuity).

Give that 100 million people were killed in one way or another by secular ideologies in the 20th century, your implication of religious faultlines are only true if you see Marxism seeing kulaks as a different religion or Nazism seeing non Aryans as a different religion.
