<description>I do wish to thank the lady who wrote this article. I too lost a child to methadone. Jamie died on 09-04-06 and this was my only child. Its been almost 8 months and it seems like yestereday. I am a member of Harmd and this group is trying so hard to get something done but because methadone is so controversial, we have one heck of a fight ahead. Anyone interested in getting involved, Please contact Harmd. We could use your help. Methadone is not the gold standard that it is portrayed. How does a gold standard drug kill more than 4000 a year? The increase in deaths speak for themselves. People are leaving these clinics and killing innocent victims in car crashes, innocent babies are being drugged, our young people who think they are opiate tolerant are dying everyday, people who are getting this drug for pain issues are dying. I guess what Im trying to say, this drug is just not killing addicts, its killing all. On harmd there is a petition link for tighter regs of this drug. Please see and sign. Thank you, Mary Haynes (NC contact for harmd) mjhaynes@ctc.net

<description>I love this article. It say's it all. Methadone is a growing killer of our youth. We need to protect them best we can.

As for the drug users in need of this medication. Stronger rules need to be attached to dispencing methdone from clinics. NO CARRIES to prevent diversion. That's the only way to help prevent diversion. Same for those that take methadone for pain relief. No take homes for them either.

Both pain patients and those that take methadone from clinics for recovery both have been known to sell their methadone take homes. Prevention is an answer to the solution and to prevent any more un nessassary deaths no should be getting methadone to take home and sell or hand out to family and friends for what ever reasons.

Ideally I think methadone should be taken off the map. There are a lot of other drugs out there to help recovering drug users and pain pain patients with less side effects and not as dangerous to od with.

Love the article and than you.
