An earthquake of 6.9 on the west coast of central Japan has killed one person and injured over 100 people. A tsunami warning was issued, but when the earthquake was downgraded from 7.1 to 6.9 and only a 20 inch wave was reported, the tsunami warning was recinded.

Another quake in the southern Pacific near Vanuatu (near New Zealand) was 7.2, but authorities declined to issue a tsunami warning for the general Pacific area, although local islands are being warned to watch for minor problems.
Small quakes are common in this region, often called the ring of fire. For those who wish to view a map of major recent earthquakes, the IRIS site is updated frequently and the link is HERE.
