My semster finishes at the beginning of May and I have 5 weeks off, which I would very much like to spend volunteering in Guilin. Do you know how I might go about doing this? Do you think you could put me in touch with someone who does know? I have some experience of teaching children and intermediate level Mandarin. I and 6 other students as well as a few adults are coming to Yangshuo China this summer for 2.5 weeks. We are coming with the Sister Cities Youth Exchange program. I am so excited and cannot wait to see al; the locals and sites. I leave in a little over 2 months, and I cannot wait to live like they live in everyday life, and their culture, and the food. It's all just aweosme to think that I am coming there this summer... We are coming to China on June 24th, 2007 and goign to Beijing for 3 nights, and then from there fly to Guilin (Yangshuo), and we're staying there for 2 weeks, and we leave on July 13th, 2007. This story also illustrates the evil BS of communism. A land of milk and honey where everyone gets FREE high quality health care and education. What a disgusting lie this is. Even the 'capitalist pigs' of America don't charge for public education, yet these destitute people have to pay 'school fees' even for elementary school. A couple of years ago there was a story in the NY Times Magazine about a high school student of one of these dirt-poor families. He and his family couldn't come up with the $60 or $80 fee for him to go to high school so he killed himself. If a very poor family makes about $350/year, then this fee amounted to about 20% of their annual income. In America, the poverty level for a family of 4 is about $15,000/year, which would be like paying a $3,000 school fee for just one kid to go to HS. Can you imagine? Anybody who thinks communism is good and that it works is either incredibly stupid, totally evil or both. absurd thought - God of the Universe thinks communism is GREAT excellent way to destroy countries for generations absurd thought - God of the Universe says keep promising your people sell them down the river to land of milk and honey .
