Sorry to say, Welfare Reform has a great effect on the state of the black man. Young black women, or women in general were given blank checks to get pregnant, get benefits, education, and in turn imprisoned black men by the thousands taking children here and there and creating a situation for black men where many of them cannot work legally, and are literal slaves working for no wages.

Here in NYC many are hired at a minimum wage, after child support payments, many cannot afford to pay rent, utils, etc… It’s a shame. We hear the stories about young women graduating from college where there are 70% more black women than black men, there is one reason. The young women are bearing children, getting shelter, food and clothing from the government, in turn they turn in the fathers who are arrested when child support payments are not made, after jail it’s hard to find work. When they find work, and miss a payment, licenses are revoked, they get pulled over and another arrest is added to their records.

Sorry to say, but Clinton is responsible for this, and Bush has just locked up more black men. If this issue is never addressed the black family will disappear forever.

Thanks Bob Herbert for the article. There needs to be a deeper investigation into the Welfare Reform debaucle that caused a portion of todays mess, and of course more opportunity for education needs to be given to black men.

On another note, Oprah created her school for girls in Africa. What about the boys that those young ladies will grow up to have families with? Why couldn’t she include boys in her school? Her separation of the girls from their families in such extravagant living will cause separation from their families. What was Oprah and her handlers thinking? Now I am hearing there are issues with the mothers wanting to see their daughters. If there was a family plan for her school, there could be no criticism, but she is pushing these young ladies to become “greedy Americanized women” who no man will marry.
