Empowerment is the most politically correct expression , whether used as a tail to gender or a suffix to “third world”. However, no investment in empowerment is more fundamentally right than that in the future of the children of a nation. The Libyan Government sure understands that when it undertakes the programme to give each of its students a laptop.

The government of Libya reached an agreement with an American nonprofit group to provide inexpensive laptop computers to all of its 1.2 million schoolchildren by June 2008, The New York Times reported in Wednesday’s editions.

This would make Libya the first nation to enable all school-age children to connect to the Internet through educational computers.
