Mental health experts in London are suggesting the word “schizophrenia” be dropped as a diagnose. Paul Hammersley, who recently assisted in launching The Campaign for the Abolition of Schizophrenia Label (CASL) argues that schizophrenia is a damaging term without a valid meaning and can be unnecessarily stigmatizing.

According to Marius Roome, Social Psychiatrist at the University of Central England in Birmingham “symptoms such as delusions, hearing voices and hallucinations are not the results of the illness but may be reactions to traumatic and troubling events in life.” Another primary symptom of the diagnosis formally known as schizophrenia is disorganized thinking.

Delusions, hearing voices, and disorganized thinking–I suggest we use another, more specific, term: democrat.
