RE: "it just simply will not work"
Neither does the current system. This is not a black and white issue. The question is whether a single payer systems benefits would be greater than its drawbacks. Please don't underestimate your readers with such an over simplification.

"After watching how poorly FEMA has performed in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, do we really believe a new Federal Agency should be put in charge of our Health Care? "
So, was Bush incompetent in his appointments to FEMA, or, did he appont people who were bad because he thinks government is inherently incompetent and so it wouldn't matter? The other option, that FEMA by its nature is incompetent is belied by Bush's high praise for FEMA in 2000. And, of course, Medicare's success suggests that governemt run programs can work (though, again, of course, nothing is perfect- public or private).

"If given the choice, I am certain the majority of Americans would prefer to be in control of their own Health Care."
I'll simply refer you to Gladwell's "The Moral hazard Myth" http://www.gladwell.com/pdf/hazard.pdf

Cheers,
