It’s no secret that conservatives are not too excited about the field in the race for the Republican Presidential nomination. Your hear:

“Rudy’s too liberal on social issues”
“John McCain is too friendly with liberal Dems”
“Mitt flips”
“Newt can’t win”
“Sam who?”

And it goes on and on.

But ever since the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., the GOP Prez buzz has focused on former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson.

I googled “draft Fred Thompson” and turned up a plethora of hits in the blogosphere. For example, read the post on The Elephant Biz titled: “What If The Right Said Fred?” here and the post on the American Spectator titled “Run, Fred, Run” here.

The lawyer, former politician, actor and radio personality, is a long shot. But he looks to me to be made of the right stuff - in the Ronald Reagan mold. If he tosses his hat in the ring, the right wing very possibly would run, not walk, to his corner.

Stay tuned.
