Six people were killed and many injured when a bus from an Ohio college fell off an overpass onto Interstate 75 early this morning.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, witnesses said the bus got off the Interstate in the HOV (higher occupancy vehicle) lane, seemed to lose control, crossed Northside Drive at an angle and fell onto the Interstate. Many of the 35 occupants — 33 players and coaches and two rotating drivers — were injured, and according to the Toledo Blade, 19 were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, three to Piedmont Hospital and seven were transported to Atlanta Medical Center.
According to the AJC, luggage strewn on the Interstate were labeled “Bluffton University Baseball”. A schedule on Bluffton’s Web site shows the baseball team was scheduled to play Eastern Mennonite University in Sarasota, Fla. tomorrrow at noon before heading to the Gene Cusic Classic, a tournament in Fort Myers, Fla. March 3-11 is the school’s spring break. Bluffton University is a liberal arts college affiliated with the Mennonite church. The school has 1,191 students from 20 states and 12 countries.
According to the Toledo newspaper, Bluffton cancelled classes today and is expected to hold a news conference later in the day.

The wreck snarled traffic in both directions. The northbound lanes of Interstate 75 were later reopened, but the southbound lanes remain closed, causing traffic to backup on many secondary roads in the metro Atlanta area.
