Channel 7 news broadcast show, Sunrise, has officially become Australia’s first greenhouse friendly TV program, as of Monday December 4.
As the environment arouses concerns around the globe, and an increasing number of citizens come to terms with the dangerous state that the environment is heading towards in the future, Sunrise has made the flick, into an eco-friendly state.
Sunrise host’s David Koch (or more commonly nicknamed Kochie) and Melissa Doyle Federal were presented by Environment Minister Ian Campbell with a certificate administered by the Australian Government’s Greenhouse Friendly™ initiative.
Adam Boland, the Executive Producer of Sunrise has spoke out on behalf of the Sunrise crew stating that they were proud of what has been achieved and that it’s a sign of things to come.
In order to reach this Greenhouse Friendly™ state, Sunrise has undergone a thorough process to verify just how many tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions are produced through its production and broadcast, across our nation. Every aspect of the show’s emissions were totalled together – taking into account all facets from lights to cameras to computers to travel.
“It would be wrong of Sunrise to report on the consequences of global warming without ourselves taking steps to fix it.” The Sunrise team announced. “They may be small steps… but they become giant leaps when other shows and business groups follow suit.”
From there the emissions are cut and further neutralised – by acts such bringing more energy aware and friendly procedures into action and purchasing annulment –whether it be in the form of planting trees, recycling, averting waste from landfill, or renovating organic materials to compost.
Sunrise has now occupied the 7th slot on the board of products/or services in Australia that have been given the title of Greenhouse Friendly™ - though it is the first media outlet to make the green change.
This step into becoming a greener and carbon neutral show is an ingredient in Sunrise’s Cool The Globe campaign, which aims to fight global warming.
Sunrise is Australia’s number 1 breakfast show.
You can catch the ecologically aware show on Channel Seven Monday to Friday, from 6am-9am.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI am a dissability pensioner with degenerative back problems and hip trouble and have difficuly getting over the top bar of a push bike so I thought Id got the best of both worlds when I purchased my gia carlo electric asisted pedal cycle, that was untill I was warned Id be fined for riding a unregisted and uninsured vehicle by the local highway patrol in cowra nsw.Even though it complies with the roads and traffic laws myself and thousands of other pensioners are being unfairly targeted by police when you,d think in this era of enlightened envioronmental concerns since they cause no polution only do 25 kilometres an hour flat out on a flat road and give the dissabled their freedom back as well as the elderly, and do require some light pedaling they would be backed by the authourities as a great thing. But not in nsw,i use my bike for shopping and to go and see friends, also to ride to the local pool for some exersize and to cool of in the summer heat ,Iwas heartbroken to think my new found freedom could be taken away by heartless polititions who are only worried about lost redgo money and the envionment is only worried about at election time as are the people.my bike is a 200 watt electric assisted bicycle and i will continue to ride it untill I am fined then Ill have to take it to court where hopefully I can get some justice.Unfortunatly most people who ride these bikes are either dissabled pensioners or old age pensioners so can ill afford court costs even when they know they are doing nothing wrong so the government and police think they can get away with this injustice against the dissabled the elderly and the envioronment.Iask all those people affected by this to start writting letters in protest and hopefuly shame those responsible into a change of heart, these bikes are exempt from registration under the schedule 1 of the road trasport/vehicle registration regulations 2007 at clause 15 states that, pedal cycles-the registration provisions do not applyto any registable vehicle comprising a pedal cycle to which is attached one or more auxillary propulsion motors having a combined maximum output of not more than 200 watts so my bike is a 100 percent legally electrically assisted bicycle.yours sincerly m french.
I feel in total accord with M French in his distress at the fact that electric power assisted bikes (200 watt) have become illegal in NSW after a Supreme Court ruling tested by RTA. I also have spinal injuries making normal bike seats unsuitable.
I had paid for and was about to take possession of one of these in Queanbeyan to ride at the South coast, when the Supreme court ruling was announced. The shop I was buying it from responsibly warned me, and offered to refund.
I was so distressed by this change to the law, such a backward step for our moves toward sustainable low-energy transport, that I went on WIN TV riding it from ACT to NSW- to show the law is an ass.
To my knowledge, the suppliers of these bikes were going to lobby the NSW government to overturn this decision, or to appeal. The grounds on which the final deicion was made rests on the definition of ‘auxiliary’- selecting one definition over another.
I am happy to support M French and other older people whose mobility may be mightily improved with this vehicle, in gaining attention on this matter.
If Sunrise wants to do a program I will happily be there.
I am not a pensioner, but over 60 and still working part time. I can drive a car, but prefer to ride an electric bike for personal reasons as well as environmental.
Im in SA and I support kochie and mel I am only 14 but apparently very sensible and mature and I hav had a history of problems with my ankle also both my knees I hav damaged the nerve endings in my knees these are the reasons I hav a gia carlo also with me being close to getting a job also it would help me get to and from work and not forgetting it would be safer for a girl of my age rather then walking around as I have been approached twice I think ebikes are a very good thing I am a big eco-geek and am crazy about it I just came back from a big environmental confrence en which I was invited these are a very good option for people like us and for people to discriminate us (police) it is very cruel I think police should read this up and get their facts straight for once anyway I know its not much but I support you guys 110 percent all the way….
Sincerely, a concerned girl
