Bush Calls on U.N. to Curb N. Korea’s Efforts

Realistically, there isn’t much more that we can do to press North Korea. China is North Korea’s one neighbor who is in a position to really deliver on decisive and effective sanctions. All the rest of the world can do is a little more of what has been already been done over the last fifty years… and in spite of which North Korea manages to limp along under the Kim régime. China holds the leash, and North Korea is their yappy, psychotic, vicious and incontinent little doggy, snapping at everyone else’s ankles. To carry that image a little farther, up until now, almost everyone has managed to fight back their inclination to drop-kick the nasty little mutt into the middle of next Tuesday… knowing that to give into temptation would make matters immediately and substantially worse, for the abused and traumatized ordinary people of North Korea, if not for South Korea and China which would be absorbing the main impact of North Korea’s collapse, and or/military retaliation.
In the words of a Cyndi Lauper song, “ money changes everything”. So do nukes, even mini nukes, pseudo-nukes and possibly even fake test nukes… especially if you are China, and just now realizing that perhaps a choke-chain on their noisy little pest might be a good thing. Our own options are thin on the ground: this editorial is long on hope and short on specifics.
