Greg,

If you want people to respect YOUR writing, try making fewer offensive remarks about roughly half of your country (those dreadful liberals!). For your benefit, I have quoted a few lines that make you sound very childish:

"when it comes to well-meaning liberals, any statement, no matter how outlandish or illogical, can be gotten away with"

"Aren’t liberals the ones who are usually all about endless, hair-splitting nuances on every issue? Aren’t they the ones who always tell us that it’s never as simple as black and white, right or wrong, good or evil, you’re with us or you’re with the terrorists?"

"She’s always been basically a standard-issue liberal, given to not unpleasant anecdotal dawdlings"

In each of these statements, you are conveying that liberals are illogical dimwits. Considering how well educated and intelligent many liberals are, I assure that you are mistaken in your assumption. These stabs overshadow any attempt you make at a logical argument on any issue. How much respect do you expect to get when you write like this? "You're stupid" might work on the playground, but it doesn't in educated political discussions.
