Internationally acclaimed journalist, Anna Politkovskaya, was found dead in an elevator in Russia Saturday.  It’s believed she was a victim of a contact killing.  Twelve journalists have died in this manner in the last six years, all of which spoke of and reported crimes committed by their government.  Anna’s work depicted the human rights abuses employed by the government in Chechnya.  Nicole Duckworth, the director of the human rights organization Amnesty International in Europe and Central Asia, said, “Russia has lost a brave and dedicated human rights defender who spoke out fearlessly against violence and injustice, and campaigned tirelessly to see justice done.”  Unfortunately, this cost her her life.
