Storing CO2 and other gases underground in a cool place could well be the answer to rising greenhouse gases levels in the atmosphere is researchers at University of Leicester and the British Geological Survey are to be believed.

The team says that storing CO2 and other gases as hydrates in cool reservoirs underground could be an alternative way of controlling the greenhouse gas emission in the atmosphere. A hydrate ice-like crystalline mineral that is formed when gas and water freeze together at low temperature and high pressure.
According to a report, the emission of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere viz-a-viz the ability of the atmosphere to absorb it has never been at an equilibrium ever since the industrial revolution nearly 150 years ago.

Even though developed countries such as the United States scoff at suggestions that the current predicament is man-made, UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned that the global warming is a man-made phenomenon.

Virgin Group’s president Richard Branson has said that he will be rewarding $25 million for anyone who comes up with a plan to reduce the levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by a significant level.
