On Thursday the 28th of January 2007, a freak accident occurred on the set of the sci-fi film ‘Jumper’, resulting in the death of a crewmember by the name of David Ritchie. The crew of ‘Jumper’ where wrapping up their filming in Toronto. The movie stars Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson and Rachel Bilson, and is currently in Tokyo for two weeks finishing production.
David Ritchie, 56, was pronounced dead on the scene after a piece of frozen sand and gravel fell from the top of a wall on an outdoor set that he and others were dismantling, Variety said.
Ritchie was pronounced dead at the scene.
“On behalf of the entire production, it is with profound sadness that we confirm this tragic accident,” Jumper Productions said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to David Ritchie’s family and all of those affected at this time.”
Another crewmember was taken to hospital, as a result of the accident, but he was only treated for minor injuries and kept overnight for observation.
Ritchie was aged 56 and he is missed and loved by many, especially the cast and crew of the film, whom were devastated to here the news.
